Two Ways to Take Lessons

Weekly Lessons

Your student gets a reserved weekly lesson time that is theirs for as long as they're enrolled, a prorated rate on every lesson, and makeup privileges. Students are billed in 4-week blocks and renew automatically so your time is never given away.

Single Lessons

Full rate, no commitment, scheduled subject to availability. A good fit for trying lessons out or for irregular schedules.

Lesson Rates are as follows:

  • 30 Minute Lessons - $49 (Single Lesson) or $165 per 4 weeks (Weekly Lessons)

  • 45 Minute Lessons - $74 (Single Lesson) or $249 per 4 weeks (Weekly Lessons)

  • 60 Minute Lessons - $98 (Single Lesson) or $330 per 4 weeks (Weekly Lessons)

*The weekly lessons rate is lower because a standing reservation is what allows me to plan a full teaching week — the discount is what your commitment is worth to the studio.

*New students start with a discovery call, then a first lesson at the single-lesson rate. Enroll in Weekly Lessons within 7 days of that first lesson and the full single-lesson price is credited toward your first block.

*Bi-weekly Lessons are offered with limited availability and are billed every 8 weeks. Pricing matches the weekly lessons model. Bi-weekly lessons are subjected to all studio policies.

*For families with more than two students enrolled student: Lesson length may be adjusted as long as the total lesson time at the household matches 60min or longer.

Billing

Weekly lessons blocks are billed every 4 weeks and are due before the first lesson of each block. You'll receive a reminder 3 days before your billing date. Because blocks run on 4-week cycles rather than calendar months, your billing date is your own — the reminder always tells you exactly when it is.

Payment is by Zelle or Venmo. Card payment is available on request with a 3% processing fee added.

If a block is unpaid by its first lesson, lessons pause until payment is received. If a block remains unpaid for 7 days, the weekly time may be offered to the next family on the waitlist.

Withdrawing from Lessons

You may cancel your weekly lessons anytime with at least 14 days' notice before your next billing date, and that charge simply never happens. Notice inside the 14-day window means the next block bills as scheduled and becomes your final block.

Why 14 days: your reserved time is held exclusively for you, and other families are often waiting for specific times in the week. Two weeks lets me offer your slot to the next family without a gap.

Holding Your Spot (Slot Hold)

Traveling for the summer, or need a break without losing your lesson time? A Slot Hold keeps your exact weekly time reserved and your weekly lessons rate locked while you're away:

  • The hold fee is 30% of your block rate per 4-week block held ($50 for 30-minute students, $100 for 60-minute students).

  • Half of every hold fee is credited toward your first block back.

  • Holds are available for up to 3 consecutive blocks (12 weeks). Beyond that, withdrawal and rejoining the waitlist is the fair option for everyone.

  • No lessons or makeups occur during a hold.

Summer families, your menu is: continue lessons as usual, switch to online lessons from wherever you are, hold your slot, or withdraw and rejoin the waitlist when you return.

Cancellations & Makeup Lessons

With 24+ hours' notice: the lesson qualifies for a makeup within 30 days. I will actively work with you to schedule it, and online makeup lessons are available when an in-home time can't be found. Makeups don't carry beyond 30 days.

With less than 24 hours' notice, or a no-show: the lesson is used. Exception: same-day illness communicated before lesson time qualifies for a makeup — please don't bring me your germs, and I promise the same.

Late arrivals: lessons end at their scheduled time regardless of start time, so the next family isn't kept waiting. If a student isn't available 15 minutes into an in-home visit and I can't reach you, it's treated as a no-show.

When The Teacher Cancels

If I ever need to cancel a lesson, we reschedule it. If a teacher unexpectedly needs to cancel multiple lessons in a row and cannot reschedule then you will be not be billed. Studio holidays and breaks are posted on the calendar in advance, are never billed, and your block stretches around them automatically.

Family Discount

Households with three or more enrolled students receive 10% off each membership plan beyond the second. Each student’s lesson must be at least a full 30 minute lessons to qualify.

Safety, Risk Acknowledgement & Liability

Assumption of Risk

Music Lessons involve minor physical activity and use of instruments and equipment. This may include, but is not limited to, repetitive motion, minor muscle strain, tripping hazards from instrument cases or cables, or minor accidents. By enrolling in lessons, the student (and parent/guardian if the student is a minor) acknowledges these risks and agrees to participate at their own discretion.

Liability Waiver

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the student and/or parent/guardian agrees to release and hold harmless the instructor and Matthew Gorgas Music from claims arising from participation in lessons and related activities, except in cases of gross negligence or intentional misconduct.

Home Environment & Safety (In-Home Lessons)

For in-home lessons, households must provide a safe and clear area for instruction. The instructor may pause or end a lesson if the environment is unsafe.

Supervision of Minors

A parent or responsible adult is responsible for supervision of minors before and after lessons. For younger students, a responsible adult should be present in the home during lessons unless otherwise agreed in advance.

Health & Injury Disclaimer

The instructor provides general guidance on technique and practice habits but is not a medical professional. Students are responsible for practicing within their physical limits. Any pain, discomfort, or injury concerns should be addressed with a qualified healthcare provider.

Property & Instrument Responsibility

Students are responsible for their own instruments and personal belongings. The instructor is not responsible for loss or damage to personal property during lessons. Students/guardians agree to take responsible care to protect the instructor’s equipment while in use.

Chargebacks & Billing disputes

Chargebacks are discouraged. Clients agree to contact the instructor first to resolve any billing concerns. Fees incurred due to unwarranted chargebacks may be the clients responsibility. Clients agree that unwarranted chargebacks may result in suspension of future lessons until the dispute is resolved.
